What are your thoughts on Mark’s column about “Carve Your Own Path”? What do you see your organization doing to make it’s own path? Please also share your thoughts on social networks.
Mark: You could not have said it better. My company is embracing as much new
technology and marketing as our present clients need. We are small but work
at near capacity for our existing accounts. Networking is great as you suggest,
but most of the stuff is just more chatter and clutter. YouTube,Twitter,Facebook
and all the other sites used in social gathering is not for business. It is like the
old daily diary that is broadcast to everyone. We elected to use what is now old
fashioned direct communication…target e-mail with a link to 30 seconds of video,
about our facilities and services. Then follow-up with a call. Works great.
Let me know what you think. Tom
I love both of these comments. We will be doing a little expose on social networking very soon. Now, I think it can be useful, but I suspect that the masses have a tendency to start migrating to next thing that receives a “buzz”. I remain a curious skeptic about social networking. I have a hypothesis and I am beginning to see some validation. In Sunday’s paper (yes – I still read the paper), an article quoted a recent study about how 9 out of 10 people are annoyed with social networks. They joined early, but are now getting bombarded with e-mails. Plus, they need to focus on their jobs now more than ever. I think the jury is out. But, you need to watch it closely. Meanwhile, it always amazes me how people want to get their name in a magazine! It has staying power. Unlike this “blog’, which only lasts a moment and then it’s gone.

George Patton once said, “If everyone is thinking the same thing, then someone isn’t thinking!”
