    In good times and in bad ones, its critical that companies and organizations communicate WITH their consumers and stakeholders. Modern communications required a constant dialogue, not uninspired print marketing.

    What do these companies say when they ship out direct mail? Is the idea compelling? Does it tell a story? Enhance the brand? Inform the recipient of your values? Showcase their sense of responsibility or stewardship of the environment? And, is it part of a larger branding effort?

    When the market is tough, don’t communicate less. Communicate smarter.

    For printers, how can they get involved on the front end, offering up their knowledge and experience to create economical print solutions. Finally, know your niche and know it well. What’s the value of printing with soy inks or obtaining FSC certification? If you’re everything to everyone, you may be nothing memorable.
